WATER BAPTISM
Your Next Step of Obedience
After giving your life to Jesus, water baptism is the next step in your spiritual journey. Jesus Himself modeled baptism and called His followers to walk in obedience (Matthew 3:13-17). Baptism is an outward expression of an inward transformation—a public declaration that you have placed your faith in Christ and chosen to follow Him wholeheartedly.
Baptism powerfully symbolizes aligning yourself with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Going under the water represents dying to sin and your old self, while rising out of the water represents being raised to new life in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through this act, you declare that you belong to Jesus, are part of God’s family, and are committed to living a life fully surrendered to Him.
The same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead now lives within every believer, empowering us to walk in newness of life. Baptism celebrates this life-changing reality—that in Christ, we are made new, forgiven, and equipped to live for God’s glory. It is a sacred and joyful moment, marking your obedience, your union with Christ, and your participation in His resurrection life.

1. What is Water Baptism?
Water baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It is a public declaration of the work Jesus has done in your life and an opportunity for others to celebrate your decision to follow Him (Acts 16:31–34).
Baptism does not save a person; salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Baptism is a symbol and celebration of that salvation (1 Peter 3:21). It points to the transforming power of God at work in us.
2. WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
Jesus commands His followers to be baptized and sets the example through His own baptism (Matthew 28:19–20). Obedience to Jesus is evidence of our faith and love for Him (1 John 2:3).
Because Jesus went public with His love for us, baptism is our opportunity to go public with our love for Him. It represents turning away from a life of sin and choosing to follow Jesus—the only One who can truly change us (Acts 2:38–41).
3. WHEN SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?
For anyone who has decided to follow Jesus, baptism is the next step. Once a person places their faith in Christ, they are ready to be baptized (Acts 8:12). There is no need to wait for perfection—baptism is a step of obedience, not a reward for spiritual maturity.
4. DO YOU BAPTIZE CHILDREN?
We believe baptism follows a personal decision to trust Jesus for salvation and to commit to following Him (Acts 10:47–48). While parents play an important role in guiding their children toward faith, each child must make their own decision to follow Christ (Romans 10:9).
At City Point Church, we baptize children who are able to understand the meaning of baptism and clearly express their personal commitment to Jesus. We encourage parents to have open, prayerful conversations with their children and to support them as they take this step of faith.
5. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IMMERSING, SPRINKLING, AND OTHER WAYS OF BAPTIZING?
Baptism in Scripture is practiced by full immersion. The original biblical word for baptism refers to being submerged in water. Jesus Himself was baptized by immersion and came up out of the water (Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10).
Immersion best symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). Going under the water represents dying to our old life of sin, and rising out of the water represents being raised to new life in Christ (Romans 6:3–5).
